In fact, many institutes are now removing currently admitted students because they do not have enough money for them to stay in the program.

As part of the HEOP agreement, all students admitted to the program must participate/partake in an intense 3-6 week summer program. This counts as preparation for the academic and/or fine arts challenges they will encounter during the freshman year. The required intro courses, counseling and workshops help students begin to prepare for and anticipate the demands for college. Upperclassmen are often assigned as mentors to the incoming class and to help structure the students’ summer experience. Various enrichment activities take place throughout the summer to add balance to the academic load.

All students receive personalized, one-on-one academic and career counseling. Counseling sessions help students explore avenues for growth within the institute, identify individual strength and ensure a healthy adjustment to college-level work. Students also receive ongoing support and guidance in making decisions about their major, internship opportunities, financial aid, post-graduate study or work, or other topics. In addition, group workshops are held monthly to develop study skills and share strategies for academic achievement.

Unfortunately yes. HEOPs goal is to provide opportunities to those who fall within the disadvantaged criteria that involves both finance and education. For this reason, if you have high grades, you no longer fall into the educationally disadvantaged category and thus may be declined from HEOP. The educational requirements such as grade point average (GPA), Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) can be found out at the participating institutes website or through their support service.
